Capernaum
Tour > Capernaum
This small fishing village was the home of the apostle Peter and site of miracles of Jesus.
At the small town of Capernaum, you can see the impressive remains of the walls of an ancient synagogue, and then just a few paces away see the site believed to be the home of the apostle Peter, site of one of the miracles of Jesus (Mark 1:29-31). Capernaum was also the location of the house where Jesus healed the paralytic who was let down through the roof tiles by his four friends (Mark 2:1-12). Lastly, in Capernaum we find an ancient olive press near the excavations of the restored walls of the synagogue – evidence of the integral role that olive oil had in everyday life in ancient Israel, including the preparation of foods, the lighting of lamps, and medicinal uses.
